چکیده
background: propofol is a widely used intravenous anesthetic drug. one of its side effects is pain during injection. we investigate the effects of intravenous ondansetron, lidocaine, and their combination on pain reduction of intravenous propofol. methods: eighty eight women with asa class (american society of anesthesiologists) classification i-ii patients undergoing elective gynecologic surgeries allocated into four equal groups including normal saline, lidocaine, ondansetron, and the combination of two drugs. all drugs were prepared in the same volume of 5 ml. pain during propofol injection after intravenous injection of study drugs was assessed using numeric rating scale (nrs). demographic data and pain scores were recorded and compared in all patients. results: the overall incidence of pain on propofol injection was lower in lidocaine (4%), ondansetron (9%) and combination group (zero) than in saline group (72%) (p=0.001). sixteen patients (72%) in saline group had moderate to severe pain. two patients (9%) in ondansetron group and one patient (4%) in lidocaine group had mild pain (p= 0.06). no patient in lidocaine, ondansetron and combination group had moderate to severe pain (p>0.05). conclusion: pretreatment with ondansetron with or without lidocaine is effective in preventing pain from propofol injection.

Efficacy of intravenous acetaminophen and lidocaine on propofol injection pain.
BACKGROUND Different methods and propofol formulations have been used to decrease propofol injection pain, but it remains an unresolved problem. We aimed to investigate the effect of i.v. acetaminophen pretreatment on the propofol injection pain. METHODS One hundred and fifty ASA I-II patients undergoing general anaesthesia were randomly allocated into three groups. A 20-gauge catheter was in...
متن کاملPain on Injection of Propofol: Efficacy of Paracetamol and Lidocaine
Background and Objectives: Propofol remains the most common drug for induction of general anaesthesia, although it causes considerable pain on injection. None of the commonly used methods completely attenuate this discomfort. We aimed to investigate the effect of i.v. paracetamol pretreatment on the propofol injection pain. Materials and Methods: A prospective randomized double-blind study was ...

BACKGROUND Propofol is a most widely used intravenous anesthetic drug. One of its most common complications is the pain upon injection; therefore, different methods, with various effects, have been proposed in order to alleviate the pain. OBJECTIVES This study investigates the effects of paracetamol, ondansetron, granisetron, magnesium sulfate and lidocaine drugs on reducing the pain of propo...
متن کاملPain reduction on injection of microemulsion propofol via combination of remifentanil and lidocaine
BACKGROUND Microemulsion propofol produces more frequent and severe pain upon injection than lipid emulsion propofol. This study examined the analgesic effect of lidocaine-premixed microemulsion propofol in patients pretreated with remifentanil. The induction of anesthesia with this combination was compared with microemulsion propofol accompanied with either remifentanil or lidocaine. METHODS...
